This workshop has been designed to meet the continuing education training requirement for Social Workers in the states of Maryland and Pennsylvania. However, it is appropriate for anyone working with older adults.


Objectives


Upon completion of this program, participants will be able to:

  • Understand how age identity relates to communication.
  • Consider components of patronizing speech and assess one’s own use of such speech.
  • Describe why some older people might (a) tell you sbout painful things in their lives, or (b) tell you their age.
  • Identify common causes of communication problems in older adults and discuss ways to interact effectively with those afflicted.
