The Search Considerations set forth below, adopted by the Presidential Transition Committee on August 6, 2009, reflect input from the McDaniel College community regarding fundamental qualities we value in a president.
VISIONARY LEADERSHIP: The imagination, independence of thought, courage, perspective and discipline to make difficult choices; the judgment and resolution to select a specific course of action; the ability to lead collaboratively, patiently and tactfully, finding common ground among diverse viewpoints in order to ensure successful accomplishment of the course of action and of McDaniel College’s mission.
STRATEGIC AND FINANCIAL ANALYSIS: The ability to evaluate and combine institutional vision, entrepreneurial insight, business acuity, and financial analysis into creative strategic direction.
CHARACTER: The integrity, passion, work ethic, fairness, compassion and humor, as well as the professionalism, educational qualifications, experience, and commitment to teaching and learning necessary to engage and connect with each part of the College community in the achievement of McDaniel’s mission.
FIT: The ability to value, relate to and commit to all aspects of the McDaniel’s culture, community, campus life and heritage, including: recognizing the extraordinary men and women who are part of its past and present; embracing McDaniel’s commitments to scholarship, the liberal arts and sciences, academic excellence, civility, multiculturalism and diversity; appreciating the faculty’s creative and enthusiastic execution of its mission to nurture the life potential of each of its students; and understanding the significant role the College plays in the community at large, including outreach, special events and public programming in the local community.
ROLE AS AMBASSADOR: The ability to embrace the role of McDaniel’s chief ambassador; to excel as a celebrant of its academic life; to serve as an effective advocate for its achievements; to be creative in discovering and developing existing and new sources of philanthropic support; to be effective in representing McDaniel in the business community; and to be a compelling contributor to the regional, national and international dialogues on higher education.
