Aspires to Teach

The rising senior, who is in McDaniel’s first class of Global Scholars, will take four courses during the semester of study abroad while fulfilling Gilman-required service projects. She’ll volunteer as a teacher’s aide in a Costa Rican school and conduct a project she designed, working with children at her mother’s Berry Patch Early Learning Center in Hampstead, Md.

“I’ll be Skyping with my school-age children at the center and sending back menus, lessons, anything that will help them learn about Costa Rica and its culture,” she says, explaining that she works at Berry Patch year-round while pursuing McDaniel’s five-year B.A./M.S. in Education. “Latin University will give me a global, connected experience which is so important for teaching.” Read the full story

Parent Preview offers separation preparation

This campus-immersion program is the first step in supporting a student’s journey to a successful college experience. Over two days — July 13-14 or July 18-19 — parents have a chance to sleep in a dorm, eat meals with faculty and staff in Glar, and attend sessions in the academic buildings covering everything from financial aid, health services and student conduct.
