Green Terror women’s basketball has ripped off four consecutive wins, three against Centennial foes, including a 67-64, Jan. 21 victory over Gettysburg. Kristy Costa ’06 (above) dropped in 21 points and grabbed seven rebounds in the contest. Green Terror wrestling defended Jan. 21 the home mat at the Centennial Quadrangular. Three McDaniel College faculty members were selected for a prestigious Japan program. Another shared an international stage with the man who helped charge Saddam Hussein, and a recent graduate won a prestigious scholarship. “I was absolutely elated, excited, and a little surprised,” says Julie Palmer ’05 (above) of winning the $2,000 Carroll Parish scholarship through the international honor society Pi Gamma Mu.

The National Human Genome Research Institute appointed Drs. Virginia Holland Nicoll (left) stands outside the door to her waterside white house, waving enthusiastically. “I wore red so you wouldn’t miss me,” says the tall, lanky woman in a strong voice that belies her 97 years. Dressed in a red sweater, red pants, and red-and-white striped socks, Nicoll is hard to miss. She lives in the green-shuttered house that she bought after her husband died more than 50 years ago. Then a young widow, she raised two sons in the Salisbury, Md., home with a front door steps away from a placid tributary of the Chesapeake Bay. It is the same body of water where she learned how to swim as a little girl growing up in the nearby town of Berlin. » Full Story
It is perfectly quiet on the set of “Term Paper of the Damned,” as cameraman Scott Koleszar ’07, actor Tim Ganske Jr. ’06, and director Joe Evaristo ’06 prepare to shoot a scene. “What’s my line again?” asks Ganske, who plays Dr. Charlie, a mad-scientist. Evaristo checks his script and gives the line. He struts around the makeshift set with confidence, describing Ganske’s character’s motivation and how the shot should look. The film makes its public premier during McDaniel VideoPalooza on Jan. 28 along with five other McDaniel student productions.

Whiteford Housekeeper Betty Beaver (left) washes the bathroom in silence, squirting glass cleaner on mirrors, brushing the insides of toilets, and mopping the yellow tile floor. The room is filled with the overpowering smell of antiseptic cleaning fluids. With one day left until retirement, it’s business as usual for the white-haired sweet-smiling woman who has been a fixture in the residence hall for 15 years.
