Lewis Renovations

Lewis Recitation Hall & Lewis Hall of Science

This American School and University magazine's 2002 Outstanding Project is a 63,000-square-foot renovation of this 1914 Maryland Historic Trust property and a contiguous (c. 1965) building. It provides state-of-the art science labs, multi-media classrooms, and departmental administrative space while respecting the building’s historic nature.

An enclosed passageway joins Lewis Recitation Hall, home to the departments of Communication, Economics and Business Administration, and Sociology, with Lewis Hall of Science, home to both the Chemistry and Biology Departments.

The rededication of Lewis Recitation Hall and Lewis Hall of Science took place in October 2001.  The buildings' renovations include:

  • Science teaching and research labs
  • New vertical circulation
  • Television Studio
  • Multimedia Classrooms
  • Multimedia Auditorium
