Congressman to speak at Resnick Lecture
Congressman Dutch Ruppersberger will speak at 8 p.m. Sept. 12 in Decker Auditorium, Lewis Hall of Science.

Congressman Dutch Ruppersberger is serving his second term in the United States House of Representatives representing the citizens of Maryland's 2nd District, which includes parts of Baltimore City, Baltimore County, Anne Arundel County and Harford County.

He was the first Democratic freshman ever to be appointed to the powerful House Select Committee on Intelligence, which oversees intelligence gathering in order to ensure our national security and prevent terrorist activity. Congressman Ruppersberger also serves on the Government Reform Committee and the Democratic Steering and Policy Committee.

A native of Baltimore City, Congressman Ruppersberger spent his summers as a lifeguard in Ocean City before graduating from the University of Maryland and the University of Baltimore Law School. He chose a political career after a near-fatal car accident in 1975. After recovering, he decided to run for public office to help others and to repay Shock Trauma for saving his life.

The lecture, which is free and open to the public, is part of a series established in 1999 by Alvin and Elaine Mintzes to honor their friends, Alleck A. and Harriet S. Resnick. Both families are active in Baltimore's Jewish community.
