Web Registration Process

Each semester, graduate students in a degree seeking program are assigned a registration day and time.  These assignments are based on earned credits in currently active programs.  Assigned times are emailed to your McDaniel email prior to the first day of registration, as well as posted to the Archway, under Authorizations and Restrictions.  You may register anytime after your assigned time but not before.  NOTE: If you are in a certification only program or a non-degree seeking student, you may register anytime after open registration (be sure to check our website www.mcdaniel.edu/5188.htm) for specific information.

IN ORDER TO FACILITATE THE REGISTRATION PROCESS PLEASE BE SURE THAT YOU HAVE DONE THE FOLLOWING:

  • Activated your McDaniel email and Archway accounts. You must know your McDaniel College email username and password as well as Archway username and password (passwords are different unless you make them the same). This information was sent to you in your initial acceptance letter from McDaniel College.
  • Check to be sure you do not have any Personal Restrictions on your record.  Go to The Archway, Log In and select Authorizations and Restrictions from the student menu.  Look at Personal Restrictions.
  • Check your registration appointment time.  View Authorizations and Restrictions on The Archway for your assigned time.  Notification of your assigned day and time will also be sent to your McDaniel College email.
  • Meet all of your financial obligations.
  • Meet all course pre-requisites.
  • Select alternate course sections.

If you have not registered for course since 2006, you must contact Administrator for Graduate Registration.

To Register for classes:

  1. Go to the McDaniel Homepage
  2. Click on the “Login” link at the top of the page
  3. Select The Archway url
  4. Select Log In and Select Students Menu
  5. Select Register for Classes

Registration options:

  1. Search and Register for Sections
  2. Register for Preferred Sections
  3. Express Registration

Search and Register for Sections allows you to look at the classes available for a given term. You may "shop" and choose the classes you are considering for the given term. You may register for these classes if you are using this option at your appointed time.

This process may also be done before your appointed registration time and your chosen classes will be held in a “Preferred Sections” shopping basket. There is no guarantee these classes will be available at your appointed registration time.

You can further narrow your search at this point by selecting specific departments, instructors, etc.

If you wish to enroll in only one course and know the correct subject, course number, and section number, do the following:

  • Select the appropriate subject from the drop down menu in the "Subject" box
  • Enter the "Course Number"
  • Enter the "Section Number"

Register for Preferred Sections allows you to register for classes that you selected in the Search and Register for Classes process before your appointed registration time. The classes you selected will be in a “shopping basket” with no guarantee of the class(es) current availability.

Express Registration can be used if you know the exact class(es) and sections you want to select for registration. The option requires that you know the "course number" and "section number". One or multiple classes can be selected using Express Registration.

Alternatively, you can use a Synonym number that identifies the same information as the course section number. If you are using Synonyms, enter these synonyms in the column labeled for this purpose. The Synonym number can be found in the course section blue highlighted information after the course number.

When using any of these options, please read and follow the directions on each page. If you need additional help, please click on the “HELP” button for additional information. Please be patient with the system and do not click multiple times or use the “Back” button. This will only cause the system to slow down and eventually abort the registration process.

You will have approximately 15 minutes to complete your registration. If you exceed the 15 minutes, you will receive a message to log back into The Archway to resubmit your registration.

Once you have completed your registration print your schedule in case there are questions about your registration. You will receive a confirmation email to your McDaniel email account, verifying that you have registered.

Waitlist
If a course has met capacity, you can add your name to the course waitlist.

If a course is full, you may choose to waitlist yourself for the course.  Once you are on the waitlist, should a seat become available, an email will automatically be sent to your McDaniel email.  The email will give you a limited time in which you must go to your Archway account and under Registration, "Manage (my) Waitlist".   If you do not respond within the time permitted, the system will automatically DROP you from the waitlist and offer the next person on the waitlist the available seat.

It is critical that you "MANAGE (MY) WAITLIST" and check your McDaniel email daily if you are sitting on a waitlist.

Web Registration Restrictions

The following registrations can not be completed through Web Registration:

  1. AUDIT (Registration must be completed in the Registrar’s Office)

You may elect to audit a class with your adviser's and the instructor's approval. An audit is entered on your record as "AU" (no hours attempted, no hours earned, no quality points). The instructor sets the amount of participation required in the course, and failure to comply may result in your being dropped from the course. You may elect to audit a course by submitting an Add/Drop form to the Registrar's Office, requesting that grade method prior to the end of the regular add/drop period. You must submit an Add/Drop form, with your instructor’s signature, to the Registrar's Office.

  2. Independent Studies (Registration must be completed in the Registrar’s Office)

In order to register for independent study, you must complete a separate form, which can be obtained in the Registrar's Office. You will need to fill out the form and get the appropriate signatures and bring or fax your form to the Registrar's Office for processing.

  3. Enrollment Exceptions (Registration must be processed/completed in the Registrar’s Office)

Enrollment exceptions such as, waiver of co or pre-requisites or waiver of matriculation requirements will require permission from the appropriate program coordinator.

  4. NOTE:  These methods of registration will be processed the next business day following your assigned on-line registration day/time.

Add/Drop

Prior to the start of class, students may add/drop a class using the Archway. After classes start, you may ADD a class only if you have the approval of the instructor or program coordinator. Please contact Sheila Deane at sdeane@mcdaniel.edu from your McDaniel email account to add a class after it has started. The DROP period varies for each class. You may drop on the Archway until you receive a message, "you are unable to drop at this time". After this time, you will need to contact the Registrar's office (sdeane@mcdaniel.edu). Please include your name, student ID number, the title, number and section of the class or classes you want to drop and a daytime phone number. Financial obligations may apply if you drop after the class started. Notifying the instructor of the class that you are dropping is the common courtesy but is NOT an official drop. The last day to drop a class with a grade of "W" is approximately 60% into the class. This varies for each class; therefore, contact the Registrar's Office for specific dates.
