10 Easy Steps
Studying abroad is easy with these 10 simple steps:
  1. Explore your options. Begin your search by visiting the study abroad web site.
  2. Make an appointment with Rose Falkner, the Director of International Programs (Hill Hall, 105), to learn more about off-campus study programs and the application process. When do you intend to study off campus? What steps should you take to complete the College and program applications? What are program requirements? Is the program suitable for your major, interests or career plans? Is there a language requirement?
  3. Visit the annual Study Abroad Fair in the fall and talk to program representatives from around the country. Talk with study abroad returnees. Get information about study abroad programs and internship opportunities.
  4. Define your goals for study abroad and identify suitable programs.
  5. Meet with your academic adviser. Discuss your off-campus study plans and course options with your adviser.
  6. Take a brochure home and talk about your plans with your parents.
  7. Complete a study abroad application Packet. Application forms are available at the IPO (Hill Hall, 105). Get an early start because some programs accept on a rolling basis. Submit the study abroad application and "Release of Liability" forms to the IPO before you apply to your specific program.
  8. Respond promptly to the acceptance letter and get your passport. Learn about your off-campus study site.
  9. Get a visa (if required by your program). Buy your airline ticket, and get a medical exam.
  10. Attend the required Pre-Departure Orientation Workshop (in November for spring semester programs or in April for fall semester or full year programs). Read carefully all materials that you are given at Orientation and share information with your parents.
