McDaniel College’s seventh annual College Press Day drew nearly 80 students April 8 from eight area colleges to workshops and panel discussions.
“We were happy with the attendance,” says Pat O’Toole ’07, who serves as co-president of The Society of Collegiate Journalists at McDaniel. “Everybody was upbeat and interested in learning from the people who had come.”
David Greene, White House correspondent for National Public radio, gave a keynote speech that mixed the serious with some great self-deprecating humor. He played brief audio excerpts of White House press conferences, including one where he asked Bush a pointed question about Iraq.
Baltimore Sun investigative reporter Greg Garland spoke about the techniques he uses to uncover stories, and alumna Jennifer Vick Michael held a workshop about making the switch from newspaper to magazine journalism.
