McDaniel College Orientation assists students in their academic and social transition to the institution—exposing them to educational opportunities and helping them to become integrated with the campus community.
Orientation provides a structure that aids students in understanding their new academic and social environment. In order to promote self-growth and learning, students are assisted in understanding their own relationship to the intellectual, social, and cultural climate of the institution.
General Orientation Schedule
The following is a general Orientation week schedule. Orientation week typically runs from Wednesday through Sunday during the third week of August.
Wednesday, August 19
The schedule for Wednesday includes:
- Resident Students Check-in
- Lunch for All New Students and Families
- Students meet with Peer Mentors
- Communicating with your Student (parent activity)
- Introduction Convocation
- The President’s Reception
- Dinner for Students in Englar Dining Hall
- Evening Social Event with Music
Thursday, August 20
The schedule for Thursday includes:
- Small group discussions about the assigned summer reading selection
- Academic department receptions so students can explore different majors, minors and offered classes
- Karaoke in the evening
Friday, August 21
The schedule for Friday includes:
- The first meeting of the First Year Seminar classes
- Individual advising appointments
- Glow Dance Party in the evening
Saturday, August 20
The schedule for Saturday includes:
- Ultimate frisbee tournament
- Green Terror fall sport scrimmages - delete
- Study abroad information session
- Greek Life Carnival
- Time to get settled in the residence halls
- Hypnotist in the evening
Sunday, August 23
The schedule for Sunday includes:
- Resting up for Monday classes
- Shopping Shuttle to local stores Choices production
