McDaniel College Orientation assists students in their academic and social transition to the institution—exposing them to educational opportunities and helping them to become integrated with the campus community.

Orientation provides a structure that aids students in understanding their new academic and social environment. In order to promote self-growth and learning, students are assisted in understanding their own relationship to the intellectual, social, and cultural climate of the institution.

Sample Orientation Activities

There is a wide variety of activities for students to get involved in during Orientation. A few of these activities are listed below:

• Karaoke night
• Downtown Westminster walking tour
• Fun & games in the quad
• ROTC challenge
• Tile Wall project
• Movie night
• Shuttle to area shopping and Baltimore culture scene

General Orientation Schedule

The following is a general Orientation week schedule.  Orientation week typically runs from Wednesday through Sunday during the third week of August.

Wednesday, August 22
The schedule for Wednesday includes:

• Resident Students Check-in
• Lunch for All New Students and Families
• Students meet with Peer Mentors
• Communicating with your Student (parent activity)
• Introduction Convocation
• The President’s Reception
• Dinner for Students and Faculty in Englar Dining Hall

Thursday, August 23
The schedule for Thursday includes:

• A town meeting style discussion about the assigned summer reading choice.  A panel of faculty and guests will serve as the discussion facilitators.
• Academic department receptions so students can explore different majors, minors and offered classes
• Karaoke in the evening

Friday, August 24
The schedule for Friday includes:

• The first meeting of the First Year Seminar classes
• Individual advising appointments
• Hypnotist in the evening

Saturday, August 25
The schedule for Saturday includes:

• Opportunity to participate in one of four community service projects in the Westminster area
• Green Terror fall sport scrimmages
• Fun activities in the Quad
• Outdoor movie in the evening

Sunday, August 26
The schedule for Sunday includes:

• Resting up for Monday classes
• Shopping Shuttle to local stores
