McDaniel College and the Carroll County Arts Council present the Boys Choir of Kenya. The world-class choir will perform 4 p.m. Oct. 9 at the Carroll County Arts Council. The concert is open to the public and admission is free.
The Boys Choir of Kenya appeared live on the CBS "Early Show," and have toured North America and other parts of the world. They incorporate colorful costume, dance, and audience interaction in their repertoire - which ranges from traditional Kenyan chants to contemporary compositions from Africa, Europe, and America. They sing classics from Bach and Mozart, spirituals, and Caribbean folk songs.
The Boys Choir of Kenya began in 1989. At a concert to commemorate the 1998 bombing of the American Embassy in Nairobi, the boys' emotional performance drew tears from many in the audience, including Kenyan President Arap Moi and other world dignitaries. The group has won numerous awards throughout the years and even emerged as the first-place winner of an all-girl competition sponsored by a Kenyan non-governmental organization.
