McDaniel College

Tours, Class Visits, & Interviews
Ever notice how everyone is always smiling in those college brochures? Ever wonder what people really look like during the academic year when there are deadlines, readings, a half-dozen options for cool things to do, and a sudden desperate need for more caffeine before the next class?

When you tour campus and meet with us, you’ll see the real McDaniel — talk with real McDaniel students and see real professors in action.

Tours/Group Information Sessions

What: A half-hour information session led by an assistant or associate director of admissions, followed by an hour-long tour led by a student. Among the topics covered: academic opportunities, an overview of the admissions and scholarship and financial aid processes, and any individual questions you may have.

When: If you are a high school senior, Monday-Friday at 10am. If you are a high school junior, sophomore or freshman, Monday-Friday at 2pm. Transfer students should call to set up individual appointments. Select Saturday sessions are held between September and April at 9 a.m., 10:30 a.m. and noon.

2008 Spring Saturday Sessions: 2/2, 2/9, 2/16, 2/23, 3/1, 3/8, 3/15, 3/29, 4/12, 4/19 and 4/26.

How: Reservations are required. Call 800-638-5005 or email us to schedule your appointment. Please include the student's full name and address, current high school and enrollment term so we can better serve you.

Class Visits

What: Sit in on a class and get a taste of academic life at McDaniel. Because of high demand and small class size, class visits can only be scheduled for high school seniors and transfer students and are limited to observation of only one class.

When: Throughout the academic year, with the exception of fall, winter and spring break.

Why: This is where much of the excitement happens — in class, with a real professor. (No graduate students teaching here!) Choose an entry-level class from a variety of disciplines and see for yourself.

How: Contact admissions for available classes and times. Appointments must be made two weeks in advance.

Interviews

What: A one-on-one meeting with an admissions counselor that lasts about 30 minutes. Personal interview requests are taken on a first-come, first-served basis. Keep in mind that interviews are not required for admission.

When: These campus based interviews are offered Monday through Friday, from late August to early May, excluding December and February due to application review.  Since interviews are conducted by admissions counselors only, appointments may be limited. If there are no interview appointments available on the day you schedule your visit, a telephone interview is an excellent alternative.

Why: This is your chance to ask your own personal questions, as well as to explain any discrepancies in your high school record. These are student initiated interviews, so come prepared!

How: To schedule an appointment, call the admissions office at 800-638-5005.

Scholar Interviews

What: Talented students often have so many successes to share that their paper resumes don't do justice to their many strengths and achievements. If this sounds familiar, you may wish to meet with an admissions officer to highlight your favorite accomplishments. This is encouraged because we love to meet students who have so much to offer! While we'd love to make this opportunity available to all students, it's only available for students who meet the academic criteria for merit-based scholarships. However, it is by no means a requirement for scholarship consideration - it's purely optional. You'll be considered for scholarships regardless of whether you choose to interview or not.

When: During the months of September, October, November and January by appointment only. (Due to the Early Action review period, it is not possible to schedule an interview in December.) During the fall months, admissions counselors will be scheduling scholar interview appointments in select cities across the country. You also may incorporate one into your campus visit. If there are no interview appointments available on the day you schedule your visit, a telephone interview is an excellent alternative.

How: To see if you qualify for a scholar interview, please use this form to submit your academic criteria to the admissions office.
