President Coley receives Honorary Degree from Albright

Joan Develin Coley, president of McDaniel since 2001, was awarded the Honorary Doctor of Humane Letters on May 21 at her alma mater, Albright College.

A native of Philadelphia, Pa., Dr. Coley received an A.B. with honors from Albright College in 1966 where she majored in English. She went on to earn both her master’s and doctorate in education from the University of Maryland.

Albright College located in Reading, Pa., is celebrating its 150th year as a liberal arts college. Other honorary degree recipients included the Honorable Marjorie O. Rendell, the first lady of Pennsylvania and Commencement speaker; Lowell W. Perry, M.D., retired pediatric cardiologist and Albright College class of 1957; and the late Vice Admiral John H. Fetterman Jr. USN, former president and chief executive officer of the Naval Aviation Museum Foundation and Albright College class of 1954.

Coley also was named Distinguished Alumna at Albright in 1995.
