We’re the first to say it: education is a personal thing, and a great education is one that fits you, inspires you, and helps you to be who you want to be.
A ranking, rating, or review is one way to narrow your choices. But they have their limitations. More about rankings...
At McDaniel, we want you to make the right choice for you. That’s why we encourage you to visit. And later, email one of our students. Or if you’re a parent with questions, you might ask a parent. Meanwhile, here are just a few things the experts say about McDaniel:
-
Friends, mentors & a first-rate education
“This is a community of nice, earnest, quietly self-assured teenagers who realize they’re getting a first-rate education and who regard their teachers as friends and mentors.”

Excellent programs — and underrated
Noted for excellence in Frederick Rugg’s popular review of nation’s colleges, Rugg’s Recommendations on the College’s programs include McDaniel’s biology, business administration, education, pre-medical/pre-dental and sociology programs. Rugg has also named McDaniel as one of the nation’s underrated colleges.
Welcoming — in a number of ways
McDaniel appears on several lists in Steven Antonoff’s book, "The College Finder," which is partially based on interviews with students, graduates, and college consultants nationwide. Among them: Best Admissions Bargains (colleges that accept students with a wide range of abilities) and Colleges for the Friendly Student. (Note: The book went to press when the College was still called Western Maryland.)
