A College trustee is elected to the board of a prominent organization of business and civil leaders, alumni win sports and leadership awards, and a student takes home a prize for his Biology research.

Here are the most recent awards and achievements from trustees, students and alumni:

Liz Bushnell ’98, associate director of Career Services for Manchester College, received the Governor’s Award for Tomorrow’s Leaders at the Indiana Leadership Summit June 8 in Indianapolis. Presented by the Office of the Governor and the Indiana Humanities Council, the award and $1,000 recognize Bushnell as a role model and inspiration to her peers and all citizens of Indiana. Bushnell has said she will donate the money to Young Leaders of Northeast Indiana, a 650-member group which she co-founded to develop young leaders through professional, social, and cultural opportunities.

McDaniel College trustee Albert Mezzanotte, Jr. was elected to the board of the Greater Baltimore Committee, the region’s most prominent organization of business and civil leaders. Mezzanotte has been managing partner of Whiteford, Taylor & Preston LLP since May 2000. A member of the firm for more than 25 years, Mezzanotte has focused on business and commercial litigation as well as environment, tort and insurance law. He is vice chair of the University of Baltimore School of Law Advisory Council. He graduated from McDaniel College in 1978 and from the University of Baltimore School of Law in 1981.

John Misamore ’06 won a student award at the annual Spring Conference of the Helminthological Society of Washington. He presented his research with Associate Biology Professor Ralene Mitschler on “A non-invasive method of polyclonal avian IgY antibody production.” Misamore is headed to Towson University for graduate studies in parasitology.

Alumni David M. Sullivan ’61, Sue Head Conklin ’94, and Erin Murphey Forman ’97, were inducted April 21 into the Carroll County Sports Hall of Fame. Sullivan was captain of the baseball team in 1961. Conklin and Forman both scored over 1,000 points for Green Terror basketball in their careers. Forman held the all-time assist record for 7 years. Conklin and Forman were named the Outstanding Senior Female Athlete of their respective classes and both now teach elementary Physical Education in Carroll County Schools.
