Comprehensive Exam or Thesis*

*Thesis Option - Students follow the above except:

  • CED 590 Thesis in Counseling is taken under the Education group
  • No comprehensive exam is taken
  • Students complete original research (only encouraged for those considering doctoral work)

Community Mental Health / Pre-Licensure**

Maryland and Pennsylvania currently require a total of 60 graduate credits and a specified amount of supervised experience pre- and post-M.S. degree.
Students wishing to pursue Licensed Professional Counselor qualification in Maryland or Pennsylvania create a plan of study with their faculty advisor that meets state requirements while being tailored to their interests and plans for service.

** M.S. degree and additional coursework, totalling 60 credits
