Job prospects add up for accounting students
Ashley Tuck ’08 prepares for interviews.
Twenty-five accounting students plunged into interviews Sept. 21 with the seven companies they most want to hire them.

“It went great,” says Business and Economics major Ashley Tuck ’08. “They (Goldklang, Cavanaugh and Associates, P.C.) said they would love to have me full time, but since I’m still in school, they’ll coordinate an internship. I’m so excited.”

Instead of companies selecting applicants to interview, the students in Economics and Business Professor Susan Milstein’s Intermediate Accounting course invited selected companies to campus.

“It’s nice to talk to people who come here interested in us,” said Business major Kim Bloom ’07 after her interview with Aerotek. “It was very informative.”

Six of the students are seniors looking for jobs. The others are juniors and sophomores angling for internships that could lead to long-term opportunities.

The students paced Lewis Hall, waiting for their 15- minute interviews. Some scheduled as many as five. All came prepared after a session from Senior Lecturer in Business and Economics Joe Carter on resume writing, interview skills, and dressing for success.

“I like getting dressed up,” says Tom Quackenbush ’08, who wore a pinstriped suit over a freshly pressed shirt. “I feel snazzy.”

This is the College’s first accounting interview day, arranged by Milstein in order to ensure students a face-to-face meeting with company officials.

“Our alums work at all of the companies we have here today, and they want more of our students,” says Milstein.
