I. Federal Databases. Below are single portal sites to search all federal agencies. Such sites allow you to discover the range of agencies that might have funding opportunities for your work.
A. Federal Funding Opportunities (Grants.Gov)
"Grants.gov is the single access point for over 1,000 grant programs offered by all Federal grant-making agencies...."
B. Federal Register (Fed Reg)
"The Federal Register is the official daily publication for rules, proposed rules, and notices of Federal agencies and organizations, as well as executive orders and other presidential documents." The original and full announcements of all funding opportunities will be found here.
C. Catalog of Federal Domestic Asisstance (CFDA)
"The online Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance gives you access to a database of all Federal programs available to State and local governments.... After you find the program you want, contact the office that administers the program and find out how to apply."
D. Electronic Code of Federal Regulations (e-CFR)
The Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) contains all rules issued by the executive departments and agencies of the Federal Government. Here you can find any rules and regulations that apply to specific agencies, such as the Department of Education or the Department of Health and Human Services.
E. Federal Business Opportunities (FedBizOpps)
"FedBizOpps.gov is the single government point-of-entry (GPE) for Federal government procurement opportunities over $25,000... Commercial vendors seeking Federal markets for their products and services can search, monitor and retrieve opportunities solicited by the entire Federal contracting community."
F. FirstGov for Nonprofits (FGN)—This is the U.S. government's single portal to locate funding opportunities for nonprofits.
II. Specific Agency Funding Opportunities. Grants.gov now maintains a "Browse by Agency" web page with live links to all federal agencies with public grant awards. This valuable site should be your first visit when searching for federal funds.

Please remember that Cabinet-level agencies, e.g. the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, have many other agencies under their umbrella. The substrata of programs, institutes, and bureaus under Cabinet-level agencies is vast. Remembering this might help in a search. Here are examples (with links) of the most commonly known:
