Honors and Awards
Faculty and alumni are honored for new publications, appointments and degrees.

Foreign Languages Professor Tom Deveny published two articles: “The Club Pérez-Reverte: Screen Adaptations of Best Sellers” in Hispania, and “La pelta vasca: la dialéctica contra la pared” in Literatura y prensa: estudios de literatura española contemporánea, edited by Fidel López Criado.

This past spring, Music Lecturer Ted Dix earned a Master of Music degree in Music Theory Pedagogy from Johns Hopkins University. He was also inducted as a member of the national music honor society, Pi Kappa Lambda, Epsilon Omicron Chapter, at Peabody Institute.

Associate Professor of Foreign Languages Colette Henriette participated in the pedagogical workshop Teaching French with Films in July at the American Association of Teachers of French National Convention in Milwaukee.

The Greater Chesapeake and Potomac Blood Services Region of the American Red Cross elected Michael Mock ’73, Vice President for Business Development at Morgan-Keller, Inc., as Chairman of its Board of Directors. In this role, Mock will lead the organization’s board in its mission to help save lives in the community through blood donation. Mock will serve a two-year term.

Assistant Professor of Chemistry Melanie Nilsson co-authored an article entitled “The Component Polypeptide Chains of Bovine Insulin Nucleate or Inhibit Aggregation of the Parent Protein in a Conformation-dependent Manner” in the Journal of Molecular Biology earlier this year.

One of Assistant Professor of Spanish Uriel Quesada’s short stories “Spoken Portrait,” was translated into English by Nadia Reiman, and published in The Iowa Review.

Governor Robert Ehrlich reappointed Associate Professor of Education Margaret Trader to the Professional Standards and Teacher Education Board. She will serve a three-year term. The Professional Standards Board will receive briefings as the Maryland State Department of Education develops program approval criteria and proposed teacher certification requirements.
