Chamber music ensembles
The McDaniel College Department of Music presents “Student Chamber Music Ensembles” at 7 p.m. Nov. 20 in Baker Chapel. The concert features the McDaniel College Woodwind Quintet, Flute Choir and Flute Quartet under the direction of Senior Music Lecturer Linda Kirkpatrick.
The Woodwind Quintet will perform movements from “Water Music” by George Frederick Handel; “Scarf Dance” by Cecile Chaminade; “Seven Bagatelles” by Peter Schickele; as well as selections by Eugéne Bozza.
The Flute Choir, joined on two pieces by Senior Music Lecturer Bo Eckard will play "Appalachian Suite" by Kelly Via, music from Symphony No. 8 (“Le Soir” by Franz Joseph Haydn) and “The Nutcracker Suite” by Peter Tchaikovsky, and “Baby Elephant Walk” by Henry Mancini.
The Flute Quartet will play “La Lune et Les Étoiles,” an original piece by Catherine McMichael that uses piccolo, flute, alto flute, and bass flute. They will also play music by Franz Joseph Haydn, Scott Joplin, and an Irish folk song suite arranged by Sondra Tucker.
Brass Ensemble
The McDaniel Brass Ensemble will perform at 7 p.m. Nov. 27 in Baker Memorial Chapel. Five students under the direction of Cullen Cummiskey, a teacher at Severna Park Middle School, will perform a varied program including classical and contemporary pieces.
