Does this program lead to certification in anything?
This program is not designed to meet standards for any particular certification. Students sometimes embed some courses that they are required to take for a particular certification in the program as part of their focus area.
What can I use a degree in this program for?
The knowledge and skills gained are intended to increase your abilities to be a better teacher and designer of curriculum. This is useful for anyone who teaches. In addition to teachers in elementary and secondary schools, people who are teaching in colleges and other institutions and need a masters degree but not in a specific area find the program helpful.
Can this program help me become a supervisor in my curricular area?
There are particular requirements in most school systems for the position of "supervisor". Those requirements are met through our program in Administration and Supervision. There is also an alternative route to this certification by course count in Maryland and Pennsylvania. Students who complete six specific courses can apply those to receive the first level certificate for supervision so could imbed some of these courses in this program as the focus area thus making progress toward that certification. One would chose this route if they were interested more in the instructional courses available in this program and desired that background before completing courses toward certification in supervision.
