Instructional Area

EDU:515 Building Communication and Teamwork in the Classroom 
EDU:528 Designing Motivation for All Learners
EDU:529 Effective Classroom Management
EDU:535 Successful Teaching for Acceptance of Responsibility
EDU:540 Purposeful Learning through Multiple Intelligences
EDU:541 Meaningful Activities to Generate Interesting Classrooms

Content Pedagogy
For students interested in a program concentrating on a particular subject area, four courses in a subject such as math, reading or science may be selected if available in the area where you are taking the program.

Focus Area
In conjunction with your advisor, you will select two to four courses from one of these areas:

  • Leadership (Some courses count toward Maryland Administration I certification)
  • Adaptations for Special Needs  (i.e. Courses from Special Education, EDU:520 Survey of English Language Learner)
  • Teaching Strategies for Students with Limited English Proficiency (Courses that are recommended for preparing for TESOL certification)
  • On-line Teaching and Learning (OTL: 501, 502 and 503 taken in sequence)
  • ASL Specialist  (Courses specified by the Deaf Education Department)
  • Generalist (may include instructional courses and courses from other focus areas)
  • The Disciplines  (Take courses in the content areas one teaches)
  • Student Designed (Particularly for candidates who are not teaching in pre-K-12)
