Associate Professor of Art and Art History

A faculty member since 2004, Steven's artwork explores universal notions of good and evil through the symmetry and dichotomy of the Hero/Villain relationship portrayed in mythology and modern comic books. His paintings focus on a non-objective, visual interpretation of these ideas depicted through color and composition.

Steven has done artist residencies at the Ragdale Foundation in Lake Forest, IL (2005) and at the Vermont Studio Center in Johnson, VT (2003,2006,2010). His work has recently been included in several group exhibitions both nationally and regionally, including exhibits in Washington, DC, Baltimore, MD, Annapolis, MD, and he will be included in "SPECTRUM: Contemporary Color Abstraction", in March 2010 at the Delaware Center for the Contemporary Arts. In 2007 he had a Solo Exhibition at the Delaplaine Visual Art Center, in Frederick, MD. In 2008 he had a solo exhibition at the Sub-Basement Artist Studios in Baltimore, MD, and in April of 2010 he will have a solo exhibition at the Arlington Art Center. His work is in several Public and Private Collections.

Steven teaches Perceptual Drawing, Drawing Concepts, Design, Color in Art and Design, Painting, Printmaking, Advanced Studio, and the Senior Capstone. He is also the Faculty Advisor to the Art Club, and the Director of the Esther Prangley Rice Gallery.
