Students completing the
basic major in Exercise Science and Physical Education earn a Bachelor of Arts degree. The basic major provides the student with a broad base of instruction in the discipline, yet still allows enough time to take elective courses in other departments. The major prepares students for entry into a wide variety of jobs and graduate programs in the exercise science and allied health fields.
Beyond the basic major, a variety of career options are offered in specific professional areas of Exercise Science and Physical Education such as teaching certification in elementary-secondary school physical education. Student interested in teaching certification in physical education should meet with Dr. Andi Hoffman early in their course of study for assistance in planning their academic program. Training for careers in coaching, sports medicine, sports management, and the health and leisure industries, as well as preparation for graduate education, are available. A growing number of EPE students are interested in pursuing graduate training in the fields of physician assistant, physical therapy, occupational therapy, and other allied healths fields. Students wishing to pursue training in these areas should meet with the pre-Allied Health Professions advisor, Dr. Steve McCole, to prepare their course of study. The Chemistry - Exercise Science dual major is an excellent choice for these students.
