McDaniel College

Scholarships
Qualified students can compete for Army ROTC scholarships worth over $35,500 per year. These merit scholarships pay $20,000 toward tuition and a substantial book allowance of $900 per year. Recipients receive a monthly stipend during the academic year, based on class status:  freshmen receive $350/month, sophomores receive $400/month, juniors receive $450/month, and seniors receive $500/month. McDaniel College supplements the Army's scholarship benefits for all students who are Army ROTC scholarship winners by way of providing a $4,500 tuition incentive and room and board grants totalling $4,720 to McDaniel College cadets.

ROTC scholarships are not based on financial need.  They are awarded according to merit.  Scholarships are awarded to the most outstanding applicants.  In keeping with our high standards of excellence, candidates are selected for merit-based scholarships on their scholastic achievement, leadership and extra-curricular accomplishments.

Obligations
There is NO obligation to the United States Army simply by taking courses in Army ROTC.  Enrolling for this course offers you a great opportunity to learn about the United States Army.  You will also gain valuable leadership experience, meet a wide variety of new people, and be able to add this course to your resume when you graduate.
Non-scholarship cadets incur no obligation during the first two years (the Basic Course) of Army ROTC.  At the beginning of their junior (Military Science III) year, non-scholarship cadets agree to accept a commission in the U.S. Army upon completion of the required academic and military courses.  Four-year scholarship cadets may withdraw from the program prior to their sophomore year and incur no military service obligation.  They do not have to pay back their scholarship benefits.  Four-year and three-year cadets incur a military service obligation beginning their sophomore year.  Two-year scholarship cadets incur a military service obligation beginning their junior year.

Upon commissioning all incur an 8 year military obligation. This may be fulfilled by
• Serving on AD for 4 years followed by service in the ARNG or USAR or the Individual Ready Reserve (IRR) for the remainder of the 8-year obligation.
• Serving all 8 years drilling in an ARNG or USAR unit, which includes a 6 month AD period for initial officer qualification.
Non-scholarship Students:
• Serve on AD for 3 years followed by service in the ARNG or USAR or IRR for the remainder of the 8-year obligation.
