Army Values
Loyalty, Duty, Respect, Selfless Service, Honor, Integrity, Personal Courage. As ROTC Cadets we have an obligation to live the Army Values everyday, not just when we feel like it. As leaders of our schools and future leaders of the nation, every Cadet must take heart in the fact that our individual actions not only affect ourselves, but also the reputations of our colleges and universities, the McDaniel ROTC program and the Army. As incoming cadets you should seek to adhere to these principles as you adjust to college and Army life. For you returning cadets, you should be leading by example and displaying these values both in and out of uniform.
Battalion Website
Remember to check out the Battalion website. It is full of pictures, forms, information about training opportunities, information about the cadre and cadets, a pt score calculator, cadences (which are especially important for the MS-III’s), and many other helpful links and files. If you have any ideas for additions to the website or pictures that you would like to add please send it to the POC.

PT
With the initial APFT coming up soon, it is especially important that we are all maintaining the proper level of physical fitness. The new freshman class took their APFT on 28 and 29 August and preformed remarkably well for their first test. It would be great to see you more experienced cadets set a good example for the freshman and show them how well you maintained you physical fitness over the summer.
The first APFT will be on 10 September for the MS-IV cadets and 12 September for the rest of the Battalion.
Enrollment, Retention, & Scholarship
Be sure that you all are making a conscious effort to recruit your fellow classmates into the program. We have a lot to offer college students from all backgrounds, and it is essential that we invite them into the program so they can share the same benefits that we enjoy.

Battalion Commander’s Corner:
Cadets of the Green Terror Battalion, welcome back to another year closer to earning a commission to the greatest job there is as an officer in the United States Army! My name is Dan Spurrier and I will be your new Battalion Commander. As you will surely notice, my staff and myself are working hard to kick off this new year at a much greater operations tempo than experienced in previous years. This is because we feel strongly about our obligation to prepare the MS III class to the best of our abilities for LDAC this coming summer. While the juniors are our main focus in terms of training, there will also be changes regarding the MS I and II classes. We will be incorporating you all in more aspects of training earlier than usual. For example, freshmen and sophomore cadets will have more opportunities to participate in collective training such as Battle Drills as well as individual skill training such as Land Navigation and Drill and Ceremony in the upcoming FTX and Labs.
Congratulations to all newly contracted MS I, II and III cadets, and welcome to the beginnings of an exciting journey, regardless of whether you choose to serve on Active Duty, in the Reserve component or in the National Guard, you all made a praiseworthy commitment to serve our country in a time of war. Soon you will be a second lieutenant and in charge of 32+ of the Army’s greatest asset, its soldiers. With the privilege of serving these fine young men and women comes an obligation to set a standard and lead by example. What this translates to here in ROTC is excelling in PT, attaining a high GPA and putting max effort into preparing for LDAC! You will hear this over and over as this can not be stressed enough. Work hard both in the classroom and in the gym. If you need help in either area, utilize your mentors and chain of command. If you are unable to attain a 2.5 GPA you will attend a mandatory study hall for 4hrs every Saturday. If you are unable to attain a 250 on your PT test, you will be doing PT at least 3x a week, possibly 5x. Remember, “An active mind can not exist in an inactive body” (Gen. Patton).
“Mission First, People Always!”

Command Sergeant Major’s Corner:
Welcome new and former Cadets to the Green Terror Battalion. I want to say that I was very pleased by how well the incoming Cadets did on their first official PT test. You have to set the bar for yourselves and the rest of the Battalion. Some of you might not have done as well as you had hoped, but don’t be too hard on yourself. You are still learning and training. Keep working out, keep pressing yourselves and you will do better next time. If you don’t know something, ask. It is the only way that you will know. There is no such thing as a stupid question.
As for the older Cadets, you now know what is expected of you. You know how things work. Help the younger Cadets out. Be available to them. I am expecting you all to be leaders and to maintain standards.
I am looking forward to this year. It is going to be an exciting one. We have a lot of talent coming in and we are going to be trying some new ideas that will help us in our training. Keep a positive attitude. Go Terror.
