Orchestra Camp Faculty
Peggy Ward, camp director, is more formally known as Margaret Motter Ward.  She has taught violin, viola, and chamber music at McDaniel College and at Carroll and Frederick Community Colleges.  She is co-founder of the Westminster Symphony Orchestra and is currently working on establishing a teaching center where area students can find professionally trained teachers.

Lynn Fleming, assistant camp director and double bassist, graduated from Juilliard.  After 10 years performing with a symphony orchestra in South America, she returned to NYC where she taught Juilliard’s Music Advancement Program.  Ms. Fleming now lives in Maryland where she freelances and has an active private studio.  She is a string coach for ASCYO and MCYO, and is currently adjunct faculty at Hood College, Montgomery College, and Frederick Community College.

Dr. Thomas G. Elliot, conductor, is Professor Emeritus and former Chair of the Music Department at Salisbury University on Maryland’s Eastern Shore.  He was founder and conductor of the Salisbury Symphony Orchestra at Salisbury University and of its affiliated YOUTH & COLLEGIATE Symphony.  Dr. Elliot was Dean of the College of Music at the University of Massachusetts-Lowell before coming to Maryland.

Jason Love, assistant conductor, joins our faculty with a long list of outstanding accomplishments to his credit.  Artistic Director and Conductor of both the Greater Baltimore Youth Orchestra and the Columbia (Md.) Orchestra, Mr. Love has infused both organizations with his boundless energy and musicianship and has brought both organizations to new heights of growth and quality.  A world-class cellist as well, Mr. Love has performed and recorded frequently with top artists in Baltimore and across the United States.

Dr. David Kreider, director of piano studies, was a scholarship student of Konrad Wolff at Peabody, receiving Bachelor and Master of Music Degrees.  He was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to study in Vienna, Austria.  He received his doctorate from Catholic University, studying with William Masselos and Bela Nagy.  Dr. Kreider has appeared extensively in recital and chamber music concerts including solo recitals at Carnegie Recital Hall, Wigmore Hall in London, and the Musikverein in Vienna.  In 2004, he presented recitals and was soloist with the Ecuador Symphony Orchestra.  Dr. Kreider teaches piano at McDaniel College, and is Artistic Director of Chamber Music on the Hill.

Jon Seligman, percussion instructor, studied ethnic music styles from around the world after doing his formal studies at Berklee College in Boston, the New England Conservatory and Mt. Holyoke College.  He is on the faculties of McDaniel and Carroll Community Colleges.  He performs and records frequently throughout the area.

Nicholas Currie, violinist, was born in Canada, but came to the States for his formal training at Illinois State and The Peabody Conservatory.  He also studied in Fontainbleau, France.  He has performed as soloist with the Mid-Atlantic Symphony, the Londontown Symphony and the Concert Artists of Baltimore.  He holds principal chairs with several orchestras in the Mid-Atlantic area, is a recorded chamber musician and enjoys teaching serious students.  In his spare time he enjoys painting.

Adam Gonzalez, cellist, has degrees from Illinois’ Wheaton College and from Boston University.  He has taught at Georgetown University and Montgomery College and was Director of Instrumental Music at the Waldorf School in Baltimore.  He currently teaches at Carroll and Frederick Community Colleges.  His commercial recording work has included music for the History Channel and National Geographic.  He performs with the National Philharmonic, Trio Giocoso and is principal cellist and featured soloist with the Mid-Atlantic Symphony.  When not on stage, Adam can be found on board his 29-foot sailboat, Mystique.

Carl S. Pitts, dance instructor, began the serious study of dance after attending Baltimore City College and Howard University.  He has performed with ballet companies in Baltimore, Washington DC, Syracuse and Hartford in the United States and Statiste Buhnen Dortmand in Germany.  He has taught classical ballet and dance for over 35 years.

Christy Stromberg, yoga instructor, is a certified adult and children’s yoga teacher registered with the National Yoga Alliance.  She is certified by the American Council on Exercise as a group-exercise instructor and is a Maryland-licensed and practicing Occupational Therapist.  She received both her B.S. and M.S. degrees from Towson University.

Beth Harkins, camp nurse, is the school nurse at Sykesville Middle School in Carroll County during the school year.  She will be on duty at all times during the camp week.  Mrs. Harkins’ daughter, Brenda, studied viola with Mrs. Ward.
