After clinching the regular season championship, The Green Terror women’s basketball team is gearing up to host the Centennial Conference (CC) women’s basketball championship tournament Feb. 24-25 in Gill Center. The semifinals will be played at 1 p.m. Feb. 24, followed by the championship game at 2 p.m. Feb 25.
Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for students. Those 12 and under as well as students from participating colleges, are admitted free.
“It feels great to be regular season champs,” says Heather Thompson ’07. “But as a team I know we all expect more. We want to win this weekend.”
The top-seeded Green Terror (23-2, 17-1 CC), currently ranked No. 19 in the latest d3hoops.com poll, clinched the spot on Feb. 15 with its 60-42 victory over Bryn Mawr. With a pair of wins in its final two games, the team extended its conference-record winning streak to 19 games.
McDaniel, which is hosting the conference tournament for the first time due to its conference best 17-1 record, is seeking its fourth CC championship in the last six years and fourth berth in the NCAA tournament. The Green Terror claimed the conference crown and an NCAA bid in 2002, 2004 and 2005. In 2006, the team was invited to an ECAC tournament.
The tournament’s champion will earn the CC’s automatic bid to the 2007 NCAA Division III tournament, slated to begin Feb. 28.
