Thursday, March 08, 2007
Esther M. Iglich of Westminster, Md., has been appointed McDaniel College’s Chief Information Officer with responsibility for the leadership, vision, strategic planning and overall management of technology and information services to support the teaching-learning mission of the College and its effective administration. She has served as interim CIO since May.

A longtime faculty member in the Biology Department, her advocacy for instructional technology earned her membership on several campus technology committees. In 1999, she set up the first series of faculty training workshops on technology in the classroom and designed and implemented the Student Web and Technology Team (SWATT). Between 2002-2004, she had a lead role in creating the campus Intranet. Iglich is also an experienced administrator having served as Associate Dean of Academic Affairs 1983-85.

In 1988 she received the Distinguished Teaching Award in recognition of her teaching and her work with environmentally oriented students. In1997 she received the Ira G. Zepp Teaching Enhancement Award to further develop her work in computer-assisted technology in the classroom with special emphasis on digital video.

“For many years Dr. Iglich has been a leader among the faculty in advancing technology at McDaniel and I look forward her bringing that same level of commitment to the entire campus," says Dr. Thomas Falkner, Provost and Dean of the Faculty.

Iglich received her bachelor’s degree in Biology from City University of New York (Queens) where she was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. She earned both an M.S. in Botany and Ecology and Ph.D. in Botany and Population Genetics from the University of Georgia, and joined the McDaniel faculty in 1979.
