Every semester, multiple students conduct social psychological research in
collaboration with Dr. Wendy Morris. Students who conduct independent
research in the lab have the opportunity to present their research at national
conferences and co-author publications.
Below are some snapshots of the experiences and accomplishments of students working in the
lab in past semesters:
Chelsea Phillips '07 & Jillian Hoffman '07
Chelsea, Jillian, and Dr. Morris (pictured above) designed an experiment to test a new technique
to improve people's ability to detect lies. This research was selected in a national
competition sponsored by the Council for Undergraduate Research. Below are
pictures of the research team's trip to "Posters on the Hill" in DC where they
presented their research to Members of Congress (Senator Ben Cardin pictured
below). This research was also presented at the annual convention for the
Association for Psychological Science.

Emily's senior capstone paper earned her the
Ridington Award when it was selected as the
best senior thesis written across all disciplines
at the college. Her thesis tested the hypothesis
that listening to punk music would prime a
nonconformist stereotype and thus cause people
to conform less to group pressure. This paper
will be published in the Psi Chi Journal of
Undergraduate Research.

The lab group (affectionately known as the roaming gnomes in the spring of '07)
roamed campus in search of students who might be willing to participate in an
experiment in return for a chance to win a lottery prize of $107.
