Merritt Fitness Center
The new, approximately 9000 square feet fitness center is a campus showplace. Students, faculty, and staff can be seen exercising through the glass curtain wall. The two-story facilitiy contains cardiovascular equipment (treadmills, elliptical cross-trainers, and stationary bikes), Cybex selectorized strength training machines, free weights, and an area for stretching. Several plasma TV's are mounted throughout the facility for users enjoyment.
Klitzberg Pavilion
The Klitzberg Pavilion provides a new look for the lobby of the Gill Center and is the new meeting place on campus. The media center, snack bar, and wireless capability make the pavilion an enjoyable place to meet with friends (either in person or online) between classes, between Green Terror athletic contests and after a workout in the fitness center. The offices of EPE faculty and staff are located in the office suite adjacent to the pavilion.
Human Performance Lab
The approximately 1500 ft2 Human Performance Lab is located on the lower level of the Gill Center. The lab is used for instruction in exercise physiology and other classes within the EPE curriculum as well as for student-faculty research. Students using the lab are taught various methods of health screening, fitness assessment and performance testing. The lab is equipped to assess the function of the cardiopulmonary, metabolic, and neuromuscular systems during exercise. The lab contains a wide array of exerise equipment (treadmills, ellipticals, upright and recumbent bikes, cross-trainers, and rowers) commonly found in fitness centers throughout the country so that students may gain valuable, hands-on experience working with the equipment they will see in the health and fitness industry. Additional information about the equipment within the lab can be found here.
Classrooms
Most of the theory courses in the EPE department are taught in the two new "smart" classrooms located on the gournd floor of the Gill Center. These classrooms contain equipment that allow faculty and students to connect to the Internet, make digital presentations, and show DVD/VHS media in the classroom. These are just two of the more than 30 "smart" classrooms on campus.
Gymnasiums
There are two gymnasiums located on the upper level of the Gill Center. Both gyms are used for intramurals, open recreation, and a variety of EPE classes, including fencing, badminton, basketball, volleyball, and creative rhythms and dance. The main gym serves as the competitive home of the Green Terror basketball, volleyball, and wrestling teams. When not in use for class or by the college's athletic teams the gyms are open for student recreational use.
Training Room
The training room is located on the lower level of the Gill Center and houses the offices of the athletic training staff. The room is equipped with the necessary equipment and supplies to help the training staff prevent, and care for, athletic injuries of the student athletes. EPE students enrolled in the various athletic training course and the athletic training minor are exposed to the training room. Students often volunteer to work with the training staff to learn more about injury prevention and rehabilitation. This practical experience may be of particular interest to those students interested in sports medicine or physical therapy.
Dance Studio
The dance studio is located next to the Human Performance Lab on the lower level of the Gill Center. The studio is used for a variety of dance and fitness classes throughout the year.
Combatives Room
The combatives room is located on the lower level of the Gill Center. The combatives room is used for various martial arts activity classes. The Green Terror wrestling team also uses the facility for practice.
