McDaniel College will be featured in college fairs in 20 states next year, in conjunction with The Colleges That Change Lives. The book by Loren Pope features 40 colleges where learning is collaborative, values are discussed in the classroom and on campus, and the sense of community goes well beyond the four years of attendance.

In Colleges That Change Lives, Pope critiques college rankings that are based on test scores, GPAs, and class rank. Rather than asking whether a student is “good enough” to be admitted, Pope encourages students to ask instead, “Is this college good enough for me?” Pope encourages students to create a list of their own unique needs and goals, from academic and professional ambitions to financial resources and personal preferences for a school’s size, atmosphere, and location.
