CSA Convenes Community Leaders on Aging Issues
New Leadership Advisory Council Will Inform Work of The Center

On August 21, 2007, The Center for the Study of Aging (CSA) at McDaniel College convened the first-ever meeting of its Leadership Advisory Council, a body of community leaders committed to the needs of older adults in south central Pennsylvania and central Maryland.

At the initial meeting, council members were welcomed by McDaniel President Joan Develin Coley and Dean of Graduate and Professional Studies Sherri Lind Hughes. CSA Director Alva “Buzz” Baker discussed the need worldwide need for elder care as our population grows older. Regionally, the Maryland Department of Planning indicates that the populations of people over 60 will double over the next 20 years in Carroll, Frederick and Howard counties.

The Council examined the opportunities for partnerships in the region as well as outreach to the community including offerings to families, care providers and prospective students.  The council will continue to advise The CSA with the next meeting slated for late October.
