McDaniel welcomes students' families to the Hill Sept. 28-30 for Families Weekend 2007.
Events include the Founders Convocation, during which basketball Hall-of-Famer and author Kareem Abdul-Jabbar will receive an honorary degree, Green Terror football versus Juniata, the Families Weekend Golf Tournament and more. The Jon Metzger Quartet at 8 p.m. Sept. 25 at the Forum in Decker Center. The quartet, comprised of Jon Metzger on the vibraphone, Richard Roeder on guitar, Jeff Reed on bass and Music Lecturer Jon Seligman on drums, will perform jazz standards and original compositions. - Sept 25, the College presents “Le Petit Lieutenant.” In this movie, a rookie policeman from provincial Le Havre volunteers for the high pressure Parisian homicide bureau and is assigned to a middle-aged female detective.
- Oct. 3, the College presents “Vers le sud/Heading South.” Based on three short stories by Dany Laferrière, it depicts the experiences of three middle-aged white women in the late 1970s, traveling to Haiti for the purposes of sexual tourism. The carefree nature of their adventures is juxtaposed with the deteriorating political climate of Haiti at the time. This film is not suitable for children.
- Oct. 7, the College presents “Les Temps qui changent/Changing Times.” Traveling from France to Tangiers, a man looks to reunite with his former love, though their romance ended some 30 years earlier.
“54 Jews and 18 Anne Franks: The work of Abshalom Jac Lahav” Oct. 2-26 in the Esther Prangley Rice Gallery in McDaniel’s Peterson Hall. The artist’s reception will be held 7-9 p.m. Oct. 2. The exhibit is free and open to the public. For gallery hours, call 410-857-2595.
