McDaniel College

Homecoming Hon, 2007 Alumna of the Year
Pamela Zappardino '71
Pamela “Zap” Zappardino ’71, 2007 Alumna of the Year, has been trying to make the world a better place since that Spring day in 1969 when she planted herself in the basement of McDaniel College’s chapel to demonstrate for changes in campus policy. Back then she advocated for campus change and equity. Now, some 30 years later, she continues her work as a consultant with specialties in nonviolence and conflict resolution, a college professor teaching Peace Psychology, a photographer, and director of the United Way in Carroll County.  Her activism in the community has earned her appointments to several nonprofit boards including Common Ground on the Hill, where she is co-founder of the Ira and Mary Zepp Center for Nonviolence and Peace Education.

She will be recognized at Homecoming on Oct. 27 at halftime activities in Bair Stadium.

The College has always been a big part of Zappardino’s life.  She served 2002-2005 as President of the Alumni Association, is news reporter for the class of 1971, works with the College’s Founders Society, is a member of the WMC Heritage Society, and has been a visitor to the Board of Trustees.
