Network Privacy Policy
The McDaniel College network is for the use of all faculty, staff and students in accordance with the Responsible Use of Computing Policy and the Addendum to Responsible Use Policy for Residence Hall Ethernet Connections. The users of the network should be aware that no computer security system can guarantee privacy of stored information on networked computers and should use the computer system accordingly.
* Users are cautioned that it is not possible to provide total privacy of e-mail. The staff members of Information Technology (IS) are required to hold in strict confidentiality the contents of e-mail to which they may have access while performing system troubleshooting or maintenance.

* IT staff working on personal computers at the request of campus users are required to keep confidential the contents of directories and files to which they have work related but inadvertent access.

Authorized system administrators have the right and responsibility to suspend or modify computer access privileges, examine files, passwords, accounting information, printouts, and other material when necessary to maintain or restore system integrity and operation in situations such as but not limited to the following:

* Detection of a program causing disruption in the network or other shared services.
* Violation of the Responsible Use of Computing Policy or the Addendum for Residence Hall Ethernet Connections.
* Detection of threats to the operation of the system.
* Abuse of the rights of others.
* Refusal to comply with IT requests to cease improper computer use.
