With alumni gathered on the Hill for Homecoming, the College publicly launched its Carpe Diem Campaign to raise $65 million to secure its vision for the future.
“A successful campaign will help turn vision into reality – to shape a college where living, learning, and teaching enrich an already extraordinary educational experience,” said Campaign Committee Chair Lee Rice ’48, noting the Latin meaning of carpe diem is "seize the day."
Announced as the College celebrates 140 years of changing the lives of its students, the campaign’s themes – Living, Learning and Teaching – reflect the three main areas targeted for funding. Gifts to the campaign will provide endowment funds to shape the future, capital funds to revitalize the residential living-learning community and annual funds to support operations. Every gift to the annual fund counts as a gift to the campaign.
The campaign is more than two-thirds of the way to its goal with $45 million in gifts and pledges raised to date. McDaniel’s trustees have committed $16 million. Eleven leadership donors have each pledged $1 million or more. And the campus community of faculty and staff made gifts and pledges totaling more than $770,000, exceeding the $400,000 goal and charting 68-percent participation.
Over the next two years, representatives of McDaniel have scheduled events in 16 areas of the country to discuss the Carpe Diem Campaign with alumni and friends of the College.
