Building the Ideal Living Environment

The Campus Master Plan brings into focus the vision of the McDaniel campus of the future. Strategic thinking, expertise, experience and compromise converge and deliver a blueprint to support both mission and growth.

Our Changing Campus

Living $18 - $23 million

Providing the ideal learning environment outside the classroom.

Residence Life
NEW FACILITIES ($4 million)
North Village, Phase 2 accommodates 90 students in apartment-style residences that kindle the lifelong friendships and 24/7 living-learning for which McDaniel is known. The expanded Village features a grassy park in its center, with brick walkways linking buildings and outdoor gathering spaces that define a distinct campus neighborhood.

RENOVATIONS ($2–$4 million)
Historic Residence Halls, including McDaniel and Blanche Ward, will be refurbished to include roomier lounge areas, upgraded bathrooms and electrical systems, and WiFi access. All three buildings housing Garden Apartments will be improved; exteriors and entrances enhanced, creation of additional single bedrooms, bathrooms modernized, and geothermal wells installed to provide efficient heating and air-conditioning.

Affinity Housing, community-service or academic-themed student living, reflects increased student interest in service to the community and affiliation with students who are pursuing similar studies. More suites and residence-hall areas available for groups of students to live, learn and volunteer together will result in variety that mirrors campus diversity.

Student Life and Leadership
DECKER COLLEGE CENTER ($1.5–$2 million)
Decker College Center will serve as a forum for the College’s increased number of students to gather for meals, activities and discussions. From the welcoming architecture of Decker’s redesigned North Entrance to an enlarged and refurbished glass-enclosed dining porch, students have more opportunities to refine leadership skills and become lifelong learners with the added and upgraded enclosed patio adjacent to the Bookstore and Grille, expanded auditorium for student social activities and performances, and new outdoor patio completing the campus brick walkway system.

ACTIVITIES AND ORGANIZATIONS ($250,000–$400,000)
Activities and Organizations that are so vital to the residential learning community will enliven the campus community with an even fuller calendar of social and cultural programming and serve a broader and more diverse student membership thanks to the support of endowed funding.

DIVERSITY AND CULTURE ($300,000–$500,000)
Diversity and Culture will be fostered with programs that strengthen community respect and increase multicultural understanding and help the College build a richly diverse learning community rooted in mutual appreciation of the values and beliefs of other cultures. Minority student retention will improve as the College creates an environment in which all people are comfortable with and celebrate differences.

Student Athletics and Recreation
THE MERRITT FITNESS CENTER ($3.5 million)
The Merritt Fitness Center is a recreational fitness and athletic training center designed as a multi-story glass atrium wraparound addition to Gill Center. A new Gill Center entrance and expanded lobby named the Klitzberg Pavilion, will provide displays of Green Terror memorabilia, sports history and a food court. The Center enhances the residential nature of campus, adding to the list of favorite gathering spots for athletes, their fans, and even student study groups who simply want to take in a “spinning” class during study break.

STADIUM VENUE ($6–$8 million)
A new Press Box and Grand Stands, parking and walkways at the campus stadium will allow both the athletic teams and the spectators to be better served and allow equipment storage space and team locker rooms while maintaining the natural drive-in setting.

TENNIS COURTS ($250,000)
The new six-court Warfield Tennis Venue features spectator stands and attractive landscaping. These courts are located near the stadium and other athletic venues.

OUTDOOR TRACK AND FIELD ($100,000)
Outdoor Track and Field facilities have been relocated to an area adjacent to the stadium with natural hillside seating for spectators.

ATHLETIC PROGRAM INITIATIVES ($100,000–$250,000)
Athletic Program Initiatives will be supported through the Green and Gold Club membership fund drives, which provides current funds to strengthen the College’s intercollegiate varsity athletics program.
