Undergraduate Admissions
The Center for the Study of Aging (CSA) at McDaniel College was established in 2006 with a grant from the Jessie Ball DuPont Fund. The mission of the CSA is to promote education on age-related issues and trends through a community responsive approach that bridges generations and fosters understanding and innovation. The CSA offers the undergraduate minor in Gerontology. Is this a minor that you should seriously consider regardless of your major? In making this decision, ask yourself the following questions.
Did you know…
…the population of adults over the age of 60 living in the central Maryland region will increase 47% by 2020?
…Pennsylvania will also see an unprecedented increase in its 60+ population, which will continue to rise in each consecutive year at least through 2015?
…the rise in the percentage of the over 60 population is not unique to Maryland and Pennsylvania?
…this is not unique to the United States, but this trend is also occurring in nations throughout the world?
…YOU can make a difference, since meeting the needs/wants of older persons will be a major, if not predominant emphasis in our country for the next several decades?
…a minor in Gerontology fits well with nearly every major field of study at McDaniel College (e.g., social work, psychology, biology, exercise science, business), including some you might not have thought of (chemistry, theatre, religion, education, economics)?
How does Gerontology fit with my major?
The Association of Gerontology in Higher Education (AGHE) has compiled a list of some specific professional positions that work either directly or indirectly with older adults. Click below to learn more: http://www.careersinaging.com/careersinaging/job_career.html
