Reporting Incidents
DoCS monitors radio dispatches by both the Westminster Police Department (WPD) and the Carroll County Office of Public Safety (fire and ambulance).  DoCS will investigate and render all aid possible consistent with the training of the officer responding and legal requirements.  Where the resources of outside agencies are required, DoCS and the College will contact them in an effort to provide maximum service to the campus community.

In the event of routine criminal matters: the campus community is encouraged to report crimes, emergencies, and suspicious activities to DoCS at ext. 2202 or at 410-857-2202.

In the event of a violent crime: please contact 9-911 from a campus phone or 911 from a cell phone.

In the event of serious medical emergencies:  9-911 should be contacted immediately and as soon as practical, the Department of Campus Safety should be contacted at ext. 2202.  For routine health issues during business hours, students may seek treatment at Smith House.  After business hours, DoCS should be contacted at ext. 2202.  After hours, Officers are able to provide primary evaluation of an emergency and obtain appropriate aid.  Officers of the Department of Campus Safety are trained at various levels of advanced first aid, some as Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) and First Responders.

In the event of fire on campus:  the Department of Campus Safety should be notified after 9-911 (the County emergency public safety center) have been notified if it can be done safely.  In this way, the DoCS is able to determine evacuation needs, render the first aid if needed, and provide additional information to the County dispatcher.  Fire hazards should be brought to the attention of the DoCS or Residence Life staff.

The Department of Campus Safety monitors the radio dispatches of the WPD and the County dispatcher for fire and emergency medical calls (ambulances).  These agencies can be reached in an emergency by dialing 9-911.  The Department of Campus Safety can be reached by dialing ext. 2202 on any campus phone, 24 hours a day, 365 day a year.  It is requested that anyone contacting 911 also contact DoCS.  This allows someone besides the original caller to be aware of the emergency so that additional information can be provided should the 911 operator not be able to reach you.  Notification of DoCS of all possible crimes on campus allows us to keep students and employees informed of situations that may threaten the campus community, and to develop statistics included in this booklet.  Also, this allows College support personnel to be aware so resources and services can be arranged and the College may take preventative actions or measures which may be necessary.

McDaniel makes no provision for anonymous confidential reporting of crimes through confidential counseling services here on campus.
