About Campus Safety
DoCS, a branch of the Student Affairs Division, provides maximum student service in a positive and educational fashion.  The Vice President/Dean of Students is the executive responsible for the Department.  A director and an office manager/dispatcher administer the Department’s activities.

Operationally, three supervisors oversee the daily delivery of services to the College community that is provided by eight officers, three full-time and four part-time dispatchers and four student employees. As nontraditional educators, DoCS staff has the important job of teaching self-protection skills. The Department enjoys an especially close relationship with the Residence Life staff. With a residence life representative on duty every day the College is open (during the academic year), these professional and student employees perform many security and safety-related tasks and sponsor safety programming in the residence halls.

It is important to realize, however, that no matter how many employees the College assigns to safeguard the campus, the overall safety of the College is enhanced most by students, and employees who understand that protecting themselves and the community is everyone's responsibility.McDaniel College recognizes that in order for effective learning to take place, a safe environment is necessary. This safety is achieved through the efforts of ALL members of the campus community. In a community, each member bears responsibility for himself or herself and others. This is especially true of safety.

The Department of Campus Safety (DoCS) provides leadership in safety related issues. Housed in lower level of Winslow, the Department also provides 24-hour-a-day protection to the College community 365 days a year. The Officers of the Department are charged with responding to all security, fire, and medical emergencies on campus. Additionally, DoCS (in cooperation with other College and off-campus resources) provides educational programming on topics of safety interest such as: sexual assault prevention, CPR training, basic crime prevention, Operation Identification, fire prevention, educational fairs and expositions, and a variety of other subjects related to maintaining a safe campus for students, employees, and visitors.
