CPT Cope graduated from Longwood College with a Bachelors Degree in Biology. Upon graduation from college CPT Cope was commissioned as a second lieutenant and attended the Chemical Officer Basic Course at Fort Leonard Wood Missouri. Her first duty station was Korea where she served as a Decontamination Platoon Leader. After Korea she moved to Hawaii and worked as the Battalion Chemical Officer, the HHC Executive Officer and the 3/5 Platoon Leader while serving with the 2-25 Aviation Battalion. In 2004 the Battalion did a one year tour in Afghanistan. CPT Cope came off of active duty in 2006 and pursued a civilian career in sales. She quickly missed the discipline and structure of the Army and attended the Chemical Officer Career Course and completed a Masters Degree in Environmental Management in 2007.
Her awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Army Commendation Medal w/ OLC, Army Achievement Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon w/ 2 device, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service and Expeditionary Medals, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon and Army Parachutist Badge.
