Henry Reiff, dean of Graduate and Professional Studies, spotlights a new global partnership that the College is launching to help educate aspiring teachers from India in hard-to-fill math and science areas.
“It's clear that this need exists in Maryland and, again, in many states,” Reiff said, though he added that the program does not guarantee employment here. “The ramifications are not just about having teachers in high school, but preparing students to go to college and major in those areas,” ultimately filling jobs.

Education professor Frances “Skip” Fennell talks about the clear need for tougher math standards for students who aspire to go to college.
“I think it will force countywide decision-making about the sequence of courses,” said Skip Fennell, an education professor at McDaniel College and former president of the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics. “But I think kids should be taking four years of math. If you don't use it, you lose it, so it makes sense to keep them engaged and also puts math on par with English.”
