In the City of Light

Today, 25 trans-Atlantic crossings after they met in McDaniel’s North Village apartments, former French House director Pauline Jeannerot and James Lephew ’11 are married and living in Paris. Lephew is working for France’s largest bank as a compliance officer — a position that requires him to be fluent in both French and English.

The couple has an apartment with a backyard, a Weber grill and a sofa bed in the living room — a necessity for the frequent McDaniel alumni-visitors. They have more friends, they say, on Skype than in person.

On Conservation’s Frontier

Student-faculty research award and Cargill grant fund pioneering work in the remote Peruvian rain forest.

Saving one of Earth’s
Last great wild places

Each autumn, when Environmental Studies professor Jason Scullion returns to campus, he leaves a little bit of his heart in the Peruvian Amazon. Both the lush forests and adventuresome students are the beneficiaries of Scullion’s commitment. This summer, senior Environmental Studies and Spanish double major Casey Kelahan went with Scullion to conduct a student-faculty research project in the remote Las Piedras watershed — the official biodiversity capital of the country.

Interviewing Day

Reps from 22 businesses talk jobs and internships with students in 150 sessions in three hours

Big benefits for both
Employers and students

Sponsored by the Economics and Business Administration department, the ninth annual Interviewing Day brought to campus 22 businesses — some represented by alumni — to conduct 20-minute “speed interviews” with students interested in careers at accounting firms, banks, insurance agencies and investment companies.

Employers have a chance to recruit from a strong pool of candidates, while students learn tips about interviewing and the components of a compelling resume, get practice being on the “hot seat” and receive all-important feedback when students and employers get together at the end of the day for dinner and conversation.
