The noted Republican formerly served a White House appointment as Ambassador to the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women, where she helped negotiate the passage of a U.N. General Assembly resolution on Women and Political Participation. The resolution calls on member nations to increase their efforts to involve women in the political process of post-conflict countries.
Sauerbrey served for 16 years in the Maryland House of Delegates and as Minority Leader for the final eight years. In 1994 and 1998, she ran two campaigns as the Republican nominee for Maryland governor.
