- Kenneth Fischer ’00, a science teacher and department chairperson at Winters Mill High School, was named Carroll County Teacher of the Year May 2 during the Board of Education’s employee recognition ceremony. He will go on to compete for Maryland Teacher of the Year this fall. » Full Story
- Kaha Hashi held up a black folded head-scarf, called a hajib. “It’s Calvin Klein,” she said of her gift for the Class of 2006 time capsule. - The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal are taking notice of Biology major Sean Carroll ’03 (left, sitting), a graduate research fellow in Biology at the University of Oregon, after he co-authored in the journal “Science” a controversial article about evolution. The magna cum laude graduate, along with researchers Jamie Bridgham and Joe Thornton, examined ancient genes from extinct animals in order to study how they evolved on a molecular level. » Full Story
- Tom Wolfe, the author of 12 books including “The Bonfire of the Vanities” and “I Am Charlotte Simmons,” described his bleak but hopeful view of society when he spoke May 11 at Baltimore’s Lyric Opera House as part of the “Headlines and Biographies” lecture series.
