The Department of Campus Safety will do its part to ease traffic congestion on move-in day by trying to apply some control to our “organized chaos,” and we ask for your help.
Approach to campus :
McDaniel College has several vehicle entrances as you can see from the map at the bottom of this letter. If you are approaching the campus along Maryland route (MD) 140 Westbound, follow directions below.
- Turn left from MD 140 West onto MD 31 West at the traffic light.
- Turn left again onto MD 32 (West Main Street).
- Proceed up the hill and turn left onto the campus at the stone gate posts (Visitor's Entrance).
- Continue on the College drive around the bend and to the stop sign.
If you are approaching the campus from the South on MD 27, or from the North on MD 97, follow signage toward Westminster, then follow signage to MD 140. Once on MD 140, follow the directions above.
Parking for move-in :
At the stop sign, you will meet a Peer Mentor wearing an orange vest and a smile. If congestion is a problem, you may be asked to wait in line here until we can move you to the next step described below. Remember to keep to the right of driveways while waiting. This keeps your place in the line and facilitates vehicles exiting loading zones.
- If you are moving into Daniel MacLea Hall, Rouzer Hall or other upper class residence halls:
- make a right at the stop sign and line up inside the line of waiting cars marked by the orange traffic cones. Stop at the sign and wait to be called to the loading zone by someone in an orange vest.
- If you are moving into Whiteford Hall:
- go straight after the stop sign to the bottom of the hill and turn right onto Pennsylvania Avenue. Make a right turn at the next entrance to the campus and keep to the right inside the line of waiting cars marked by the orange traffic cones. Stop at the sign and wait to be called to the loading zone by someone in an orange vest.
- If you are a commuter student, find a parking spot in any indicated College Lot and proceed to Ensor Lounge, Decker College Center.
Check-in Procedures :
After parking, (or while waiting in line if more than one person is in the auto) all students should proceed to Ensor Lounge, upper level of Decker Center. You will check in there!
After checking in, you can return to your cars and move them to a line by your residence hall. Please wait there for directions from the orientation staff (Peer Mentors and ROTC staff) who will help you unload at one of the designated areas. Please do not leave your vehicle unattended in line, or move your belongings out of your auto then leave them unattended.
After your car is unloaded, you will be directed to the closest convenient parking area.
Congratulations on your choice of McDaniel College. We hope to make your move-in day as easy as possible. If you have special needs with which we can help, please call me at (410) 857-2202. Best of luck!
