After lunch with President Joan Develin Coley, Mathematics Professor Emeritus and College Historian James Lightner explained that her house was built for their grandfather.
Edwin and Hamilton Lewis, great grandsons of J.T. Ward and grandsons of Thomas H. Lewis – the first two presidents of the College, recently visited McDaniel. After lunch with President Joan Develin Coley, Mathematics Professor Emeritus and College Historian James Lightner explained that her house was built for their grandfather.
Lightner led an historic tour for the brothers, who live in California and Ohio respectively and did not attend the College. Archivist Barbara O’Brien showed them yellowing documents, diaries written in elaborate script, fading photographs and mementos of their ancestors’ lives as they shaped the College during its early years.
