The multimedia musical experience is based on the novel “Einstein’s Dreams” by Alan Lightman. The book tells the story of a young Einstein creating the theory of relativity while imagining what would have happened if time didn’t tick forward in minutes and hours, but instead rolled in a circle or ran like water in a river.

Lightman’s novel inspired Music Professor Margaret Boudreaux and former McDaniel Artist-in-Residence Lorraine Whittlesey to create the new choral performance based on the book. Whittlesey wrote the lyrics and created the score, using rhythmic changes to show time’s movement. A heart beating ever slower illustrates a dream where time stands still.

The hour-long performance will include live and pre-recorded music, projected images and narration from the character of Einstein. A question-and-answer session will follow the performance.

The program is underwritten by College trustee Martin K.P. Hill and wife Kelly through a grant from Target Corporation. A post-concert discussion with the composer is partially funded through the Meet the Composers Creative Connections program.
