New Year's Resolutions
![]() Every year McDaniel students try something new — on campus or far, far away.
As part of a philosophy class called Religion, Culture, and Development in Rural India, students are traveling to western India, where they’ll learn about rural cultures, literatures, and religious beliefs. In an English class called Coastal California, students travel to California to study Beat poets of the 1950s, hippies of San Francisco, and John Muir’s environmental leadership.
It’s the most wonderful time of the year — especially for McDaniel students. That’s because it’s January Term, the time to let the mind — and sometimes the body — travel to new territories. Analyze the Kennedy assassination. Study horror films of the post-modern age. Explore Jewish-Christian-Muslim relations. Travel to the Bahamas to study marine biology. Jan Term offers 39 courses, each designed to give students insight into subject matter not typically available during a regular semester. First held in 1969, Jan Term consists of three weeks during which students enroll in only one course or internship. Near or far, there are plenty of options to wipe away your winter woes. |
